"Preparing My Loft for the 2015 Breeding Season"

 

Well the 2014 Racing Season has come to an end for the East Hawaii Invitational RPC and the results are yet to be posted on my site.

Our next upcoming season is the "Breeding Season". With more expectations as a pigeon fanciers I had to do a loft renovation to accomodate this upcoming breeding season. The follwing changes were made to my breeding loft.

1. Take out all excess perches

2. Take down the back section of the breeding loft (see pictures below)

3. Install the pre-cut breeding compartments with dividers (see pictures below)

4. Install the nest fronts (see pictures below)

 

The renovation gives the breeders more room within this section of the loft. Being that the nest boxes are attached to the outer back section of the loft and not built inside of the loft. The boxes have been sanded down quite well as to allow me to scrape the dropping from the nest boxes easily. The dropping will then go stright through the screened flooring and onto the ground where it will them be collected for fertilizer. The renovation will also allow me to have 12 additional nesting boxes for the breeders for a total of 22 boxes which is sufficient for the amount of young birds I am planning to fly next year. Hope all goes well this upcoming breeding season.

My next step is to pair up breeders that have had their young proven in the previous 2014 young bird season. This challenge is going to be hard for me due to the fact that I had'nt competed in the 2014 young bird season. Thats when my instincts will guide me to a well known Racing Pigeon Fancier Nathan Totman "Bradah Nate" of Mr. T's Loft  of Keaau. He had already helped me out with several pairs of proven racers which I have successfully bred and have gotten some late 2014 Bandits, and Gordons (see Videos More Young Baby Pigeons) that I will soon be training in November / December time period. If these are good flyers their parents will be paired up once again during my 2015 breeding season.
